The mission of Concordia Academy is to instill in our students a commitment to life-long learning, leading, and living out God’s Plan.

Music Program at Concordia Academy

THow well does CA prepare students for the college experience?  One measure is the acceptance rate of students to universities.  Another is the variety of universities to which CA students are accepted.  Additional measures are the variety of majors into which CA graduates are accepted and how well the students perform in college.

Concordia Academy’s Choir and Band programs both rank high at the Region and State level against schools of about 1,000 students, but how well do they prepare students to compete against students from 5A schools when trying out for university level performing groups?

A year ago, members of Concordia Academy’s first graduating class earned positions performing with the Texas State University Women’s Choir (Alissa Andersen), the Oklahoma City University Wind Ensemble (Angelique Hibbs), and the Concordia University, Nebraska, Band (Stephanie Hunt).

This fall, CA graduates auditioned and were selected for membership in additional  university performing ensembles:  Rachel Kokel for the University of Texas, Austin, Women’s Choir and Jonathan McGuire and Patrick Nuckols for the Concordia University, Nebraska, Concordia Singers.  Caleb Riemer has been requested to perform on violin with the choir at Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

CA Band and Choir Director, Dr. Robert Achterberg, is particularly pleased that these students have developed such high-level technical skills and are using them at the university level.  After all, these are skills that our CA alumni can use for the rest of their lives for aesthetic expression, recreation, and worship.
