Spanish 1
Grades 9-11....2 semesters.....1 credit

This course is designed to present the basic concepts in Spanish. The present tense is presented in the first semester and the basic vowel sounds are emphasized. In the second semester, the past tenses are presented and oral work and composition become more important. Cultural background is introduced to help the student understand how to think in Spanish. Prerequisite: B or above average in previous year's English

Spanish 2
Grades 9-12.....2 semesters.....1 credit

This course is designed to further develop language skills. Compound tenses, the future tense, and the conditional tense are presented. The subjunctive mood is introduced. The ability to express oneself in practical situations carries particular importance in this course. Prerequisite: C or above in Spanish 1 and teacher recommendation

Spanish 3
Grade 10 - 12….2 semesters…..1 credit

This course emphasizes reading and writing skills. One way in which this is accomplished is by creating a Spanish program for younger students. Students are presented with opportunities to practice understanding the spoken word and speaking the language proficiently as they work with younger Spanish students in their classroom. Awareness of Spanish culture and of the heritage of Spanish speaking countries is another part of the language experience.
