English 1
Grade 9........2 semesters.......1 credit

English I is a two semester course combining grammar usage, journal writing, vocabulary, the writing process, essay development and various genres of literature. Emphasis is placed on grammatical rules and usage, a Shakespearean tragedy, a novel, and a research paper.

English 2
Grade 10......2 semesters.......1 credit

English 2 is a two semester course, integrating language, literature, and composition, in order to build on the skills developed during the freshman year. Emphasis is on the study of American Literature which includes the short stories, drama, novel, and poetry. Literary interpretation, including the identification of theme, is used to improve student's expository writing. Book reviews and outside reading are required. Grammar emphasis is on paragraph development and clear grammatical sentences. Writings will include journal writing, creative writing, and a thesis paper. Vocabulary is also stressed this year.

English 3
Grade 11….2 semesters…..1 credit

This course combines British literature and college composition. Emphasis is placed on the literature written in Britain from the Anglo-Saxon time period through the early twentieth century (450 – 1900) and on writing skills and various forms of writing. Vocabulary is also emphasized.

Speech Communication
Grades 9-12....1 semester....0.5 credit

Speech Communication is an interactive course designed to study and improve basic communication skills and elements, personal communication roles and responsibilities, group and social communication processes, as well as preparation, organization and delivery techniques for public speaking.

Yearbook
Grades 10-12…2 semesters….1 credit

May be repeated.Yearbook is a course in which the students are exposed to the basics of the yearbook, and are given training in its various facts: news reporting, photography, feature writing, layout design, proofing, and editing. In addition to learning about the craft, students are given the opportunity to put their lessons into practice as they produce and publish the school’s yearbook. Entry into the course is by application only, upon the instructor’s approval. Prerequisite: English 1 and Permission of Instructor. (Does not count as credit towards the English requirement)
